DIY: Painted Secretary's Desk

Remember this desk?

I posted on facebook asking for ideas on how to give it a makeover.  You had some lovely color suggestions.  Since I recently moved to the beach I wanted to give it a beach cottage feel, so decided to use the Cottage palette for inspiration.

I used sea glass, ACK, and clothesline.

After a coat of primer, I gave the whole desk two coats of seaglass.  I love the softness of the color.  The front looked a little plain to me, so I decided to add a detail stripe with clothesline.  I just taped it off and viola!  I love how the contrast makes the desk look like it has an inlaid panel.

I wanted to do something unexpected on the inside so I chose ACK (our take on Nantucket Red).  I love the two together, but again, the inside needed a little something, so I painted the fronts of each cubby with clothesline to break up the color a bit.

I'm still waiting on knobs... I ordered these for the front drawers:

But I couldn't resist sharing...

What do you think?

ps... the wall color behind it?  It's torn skirt.  Don't mind the lightswitch, I forgot to cut in around it... another minor fix on the endless list of to-dos...

Happy Tuesday!
