Good Homes India Shoot: Paint it Pretty

We have a special treat for you today: a shoot featured in Good Homes, India all about our paint and how you can use it to make even the most challenging space shine.

Good Homes is a wonderful magazine out of India!  We worked with them to create a few spaces featuring our paint in transformational ways...

Like this attic.  The angled walls of this guest room made it impossible to use traditional headboards.  Instead, we used paint to create bold blue versions which follow the angle of the ceiling line and really spruce up the room.

Here is a before/after shot:

Those painted headboards make a big difference against a fresh coat of Whisper.  The blue is our color Ballgown (AND we used chalkboard paint!).  That lamp is also a Quiet Home Paints color: Pool.

I just love this room now.

Good Homes also published this "window treatment" we did to show that there are no limits to what you can achieve with a simple coat of paint:

Here our color Pond was used to create this unique window.  It couldn't have been easier...

What do you think?  Something you would consider in place of the traditional?

And finally: a geometric, city-inspired wall:

Here we used our color Torn Skirt on top of Truss to create the city-scape.

It's as simple as taping out the design (a series of vertical and horizontal lines) and then filling in with paint.

What you do think?  I encourage you to check out the whole article (here's a link to the PDF)...  and the rest of the magazine for that matter.  We may be biased, but we think they feature some really spectacular stuff!  Special thanks to Good Homes for doing such a beautiful job featuring our paints!

Wentworth Gardner House Photoshoot.

A few weeks ago Lisa and I staged a portion of the Wentworth Gardner House in Portsmouth NH for a photoshoot.  As a paint company, it is important to show our colors on the walls so you, as potential painters, can see more than just a swatch.  We chose a few colors, one from each palette in the Quiet Home Collection and went to work.  Staging rooms for a photoshoot is a fun (but big) job.  Not only did we need to paint each area with the color we wanted to shoot, but we needed to shop for furnishings, accessories and art, then move it all into the space, stage the space, have it photographed, then break it all down.   Like I said, it's a big job.

I've shared some previews of what the space looked like in progress here on the blog previously.  Today I wanted to share the results (along with how we got to them!).

A big thanks to the photographer who captured these shots, John Hession

First up: Grass Stain

It's the most beautiful green and the perfect backdrop for purples, teals, and creams.  You can find Grass Stain in the Potting Shed palette among other colors that inspire spring.

Pretty, right?

Well, here is what it looks like from my angle:

John is great at doing what it takes to get the shot.

Next: Whisper and Cuddle Together Forever

There is something so beautiful about an all white space.  When we started Quiet Home Paints, we knew we only needed two whites: one warm and one bright...  here they work together to create a perfect spot.

Here is Lisa painting over that horrible color that lived on these walls previously.

Pretty.

Jewel Toned Ballgown and Emma:

Both of these gorgeous colors live in the Estate Palette.  When used together like this, the impact is a powerful one.

You can see the difference here:

Ballgown before we added Emma on the wall in the hallway...

There she is.

And of course, the addition of furniture and accents makes a big difference.  You can see a little texture on the wall here.  We painted right over some textured wallpaper.  It's a great look and much easier than taking all that wallpaper off!

Husk and Foxtail:

I love this color combination.  Both husk and foxtail can be found in the Camp palette...  along with Truck which is the orangey red on the stool.  Its a warm and lovely space.

what do you think?

Ok, now for Porch:

A lovely blue from the Cottage Palette...

Up next:  Nest

This warm toned neutral really transformed this hallway...

And finally:  ACK

The back wall of this small closet is painted in ACK from the Cottage palette and makes the small space special.

And there you have it!  It was a fun project to work on...  where would you use these colors?

painty hands

Good Morning!  Happy Presidents Day!  Do you have the day off?  What will you do with it?  Will you get messy?

This is a beautiful shot for an album cover from Leslie David.  I love paint covered hands... they say I am not afraid to be creative, get messy and have fun.  Having had paint all over my hands more time than I can count, I understand the urge to capture them in photographs.  Of course, it is kind of hard to hold the camera when your hands are covered in paint.

Here are some more great painted hands from around the web:

I love this grouping - hands connected by paint.

a painting in the palm of your hand.

see? fun, messy, creative...

So what do you think?

Will you get your hands painty?

Just another reason to use our paint...  feel like playing with it?  You can without worrying about any toxins sinking through your skin.  It's completely safe...  so get painting and don't be afraid to get a little dirty!

a nod to november.

What does November mean to you?  To me, it's the start of New England winter (even though the first day of winter is technically in December), it's recognizing all that I am thankful for, it's fires in the fireplace and warm socks under boots.  It's raking (and raking some more) and brisk walks and seeing your breath.  It's switching over the wardrobe, it's flannel sheets, it's hot cocoa.  And of course, it's gorgeous late fall/early winter colors:

a late fall mood board

November is a perfect example of why I love living in New England.  It's the changing of the seasons.  Ask me in the summer what my favorite season is, I will undoubtedly say the fall.  Ask me this time of year?  It's winter. (But I don't think I ever so enthusiastically look forward to a new season as I do come end of March when spring seems like it will never arrive.)

Today: rooms that give a little nod to November...

Burnt reds, mustard yellows, charcoal gray and neutral walls make this space radiate warmth.

This combo is perfect to me.  Muted blue behind a punchy brown...  with those antlers?  Makes me want to sink into that couch with a hot cup of coco and make my way through those beautiful old books.

Talk about color.  Anchored by deep, brown walls the organizes, yellows, pinks and greens really come to life.

And this.  Dark, rich color paired with knits and graphics make this little space one to remember.

And finally... a workroom to dream about.  Natural elements paired with crisp white and textured floor coverings... I love.

All room photos are from the great Lonny Magazine.

Pond. Catnap. Buzz. Bee

Today I wanted to share with you a room that we recently completed for a wonderful couple and their expected little girl.  Completed may not be the right word.  In fact, they themselves did all the hard work.  They painted (A LOT!), lugged up furniture, decorated and lovingly made this room a nursery for their expected little one.  We came in a few weeks before the due date to stage the nursery for a photo shoot.

Photoshoots are really fun for us.  We usually arrive armed with accessories, throws, pillows, rugs and artwork to place in a way that looks the best through the lens of the camera.

Here is Lisa rearranging some stuffed animals that looked a little funny through the lens.

The parents painted this dresser in catnap (the same color as the ceiling and trim) and then completed the drawers in our chalkboard finish of bee.

We brought in this custom chair from LTS (which is painted in QHP's pebble) and framed piece of art to create a little reading nook in the nursery.

We also brought this extra large canvas which we had painted in our chalkboard finish of buzz to break up this large wall.  Its a super easy, super inexpensive way to add custom art (if you will) to your space.

We worked with the talented Greg West on the shoot.

It's a constant back and forth... from the room, to the camera, to the computer and back to the room to tweak this or that.  Greg has a great eye and would suggest moving this or that slightly to best fill the frame.

Here is a wide angle shot from Greg that shows most of the room.  That chevron rug usually lives outside my office, but we thought it worked well in this space.  We've shared more photos of this project on Project Nursery.  Be sure to check it out to see the rest of Greg's shots and this fun nursery!

the glow.

While I love falling asleep to the sound of rain, waking up to it repeatedly is getting a little old.  We are going on day four of straight rain.  My gardens are looking more and more like jungles, I have a pile of wet socks by the front door, the puppy is going stir crazy, and I am starting to feel like bed is an appropriate place from which to work. It's a problem.  So, I am anxiously awaiting for that first glimpse of sun through the clouds.  Will it be today?

Have you all heard of the The Glow?  Maybe I'm behind on the times here, but it is a beautiful website that gives a glimpse into the life of moms...  the photos are stunning.  Stunning.

I stumbled across this photo on Pinterest via Oopsy Daisy and just had to find out more...

As it turns out this is Jeanann William's little girl, Ruby.  And this is her room in their Montauk home. You really should read the whole post. Jeanann has lovely things to say about being a mother.

Here's a little peak:

I love how these vintage lockers look up against the pale pink of the walls.  It's the perfect combination.

The room is a wonderful mix of sweet and natural.  The soft paleness of the walls works with the natural fibers and woods throughout the room.  It's beachy without the blues and greens.

Who said little girls have to have little girl bedding?  I adore this bedding and how unexpected it is for a toddler's room.

And that rug.

Mommy and Daughter.  Jeanann, we love your style!

Be sure to head on over to The Glow to check out the rest of the photos from this shoot and Jeanann's beautiful words on being a busy, successful, working mom.  The rest of their house is beautiful, too!

And if you looking for a similar look be sure to try our organic paint colors touch and puff together...

Enjoy your day.  I hope the sun is shining wherever you are!

hello world.

I love this photo.  I love this precious little girl, taking in the world with amazement and wonder.  What's out there I wonder? What does she see? Who will she grow up to be?  What will her interests be?  Will she have her mommy's compassion and gracefulness?  Will she have her daddy's love for adventure and cold weather?

Or will she have a little mischievousness in there, like her auntie??  I think she's got a secret.

I just had to share those photos of my adorable niece, taken by her talented mom, Leigh.  Perhaps I am biased...  but I think she is pretty special.
